Charles M encouraged Lili Y to ride a bike!

How it Works

girls-594bda.jpgThe Tour de Work is a free, fun competition taking place from Monday 9 to Sunday 29 November 2009 to encourage people working in the City of Adelaide to remember the joys of riding a bike and to discover the benefits of cycling to work.

There are two competitions – Bike to Work and Win and the Workplace Challenge.

For the Bike to Work and Win competition, every trip that you make to work on a bike (or for other transport purposes such as to the shops, a friend's house or out to dinner) and log on the website is an entry into the Bike to Work and Win major prize draw. So the more transport trips you make on a bike the more chances you have of winning.

For the Workplace Challenge, the main aim is to get as many of your colleagues as possible to ride a bike. Teams will compete to see who can get the most staff cycling. Team members can cycle whenever and wherever they feel comfortable for a minimum of 10 minutes. Organisations/departments within the City of Adelaide that get the highest percentage of their staff cycling for their size category will win prizes. People can ride for transport or recreation purposes.

There are loads of prizes and giveaways including six Avanti bikes, 400 Palace Nova cinema tickets, cycling gear and much more! Find out about prizes here.

So set yourself a target for how much cycling you would like to do for the Tour de Work!

The Challenge is now complete! See the results and prize winners here.

It's easy to take part!

  1. Register on this website
  2. Ride a bike for 10 minutes or more, from Monday 9 to Sunday 29 November 2009*
  3. Log your cycling on this website or on a registration form
  4. Encourage your colleagues to have fun riding a bike too!

* You can ride wherever you feel comfortable, whenever you like during the Tour de Work, for at least 10 minutes.

* Using motorcycles, scooters, static bikes or exercise bikes does not count as riding a bike. People will need to ride an actual bicycle for their participation to count.

* Only people who are working within the Adelaide City Council area will be eligible for the prizes and giveaways.

Size Categories

For the Workplace Challenge, there are six size categories to give any organisation/department, big or small, a good chance of winning.

  1. Very Small - 3 to 6
  2. Small - 7 to 19
  3. Medium - 20 to 49
  4. Large - 50 to 199
  5. Very Large - 200 to 499
  6. Corporate - 500+

Organisations or departments of 1 to 2 staff can still record their cycling and enter in the draw for prizes, however they will not be eligible to win the Team Prizes. (It's too easy to get 100% participation when there's only 1 or 2 of you!)

Only cycling that is logged during the Tour de Work, Monday 9 to Sunday 29 November 2009, counts towards your team's score in the Workplace Challenge.

See the Terms and Conditions for further information, including what happens in the event of a tie.
